Heat the oil in a kadai or saucepan. Add the methi seeds/onions and stir for about minute. Add the mashed potatoes and fry till light yellow. Add the tomatoes, haldhi, salt and fry till the tomatoes begin to dry up. Add water and bring to a vigorus boil.
Add the fried fish cover the saucepan/kadai, lower heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Add the other ingredients i.e. chopped coriander, whole green chillies, sugar. Simmer for a minute more. Add lime or lemon juice, and immediately transfer the entire contents to a glass or porcelain bowl.
Serve hot or cold with plain boiled rice.
1/2 kg Fish, cleaned, washed, and then smeared with haldi & salt and lightly fried
1/2 kg ripe red Tomatoes
1 tablespoon cooked and mashed Potatoes
2 tablespoon Mustard Oil (for cooking)
1 level teaspoon whole Methi seeds OR 2 teaspoons finely chopped onions
400 ml Water
A bunch of fresh green Coriander Leaves washed and chopped fine
2 whole Green Chillies, left whole and UNCUT
Salt to taste
1/2 teaspoon Haldi
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon Sugar (optional)
1/2 to 1 tablespoon fresh lemon or Lime Juice (according to taste)
