Gateau Fruit Cream

Method
  1. Take � cup of milk and mix custard powder in it. Boil remaining milk.
  2. Add sugar and custard powder mixture. Cook stirring till the custard is thick.
  3. Let the custard cool. Stir it often during this time to avoid skin forming on top.
  4. Cover with cling film and keep in refrigerator.
  5. Cut the cake into thin slices.
  6. Drain the fruits from syrup.
  7. Take a rectangular glass dish.
  8. Cover the base of the dish with a layer of cake.
  9. Sprinkle some syrup from the tin over the cake.
  10. Scatter half the fruits over the cake.
  11. Chop cashew nuts into pieces and sprinkle half of them on fruits.
  12. Spread half the custard on top of fruits. Repeat the layers.
  13. Whip the cream with icing sugar and spread on top of custard.
  14. Decorate with cherries and walnuts.
  15. Chill for at least 4 hours before serving.

Serves: 8 to 10

Ingredients:
1 tin - mixed fruit (fruit cocktail) (large)
2 cup - milk
1 cup - fresh cream
250 g - vanilla sponge cake
2 tbsp - vanilla custard powder
2 tbsp - sugar
3 tbsp - cashew nuts, roasted
2 tbsp - icing sugar
walnuts and cherries to decorate
