Method
- Rinse the beans and soak overnight
- Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add cumin seeds, asafoetida, bay leaf, cinnamon, cloves, and red chillies.
- Add chopped onions and cook until they are transluscent.
- Add turmeric powder, green chillies, ginger, garlic, tomatoes, red chilli powder and salt and stir for 3 mins.
- Add the soaked beans and 4 cups of water.
- Cook on a high flame up to 2 whistles.
- Reduce flame and cook for about 45 minutes.
- Allow the pressure cooker to cool down on its own.
- Serve garnished with cilantro with rotis or hot rice.
