Heart disease in women
Heart disease and stroke is the number one killer in women. Women experience coronary heart disease differently from men. Symptoms like chest or stomach pains, nausea, breathlessness and unexplained tiredness are often overlooked and undertreated.

These simple measures can help minimise the risk factors.

  1. Exercise should be a regular part of your life. Women should learn to enjoy at least 30 minutes of physical activity that raises your heart beat, every day.
  2. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day.
  3. Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables as well as a variety of whole grains.
  4. Reduce your salt intake. It can help to reduce your blood pressure.
  5. Watch your cholesterol. Choose foods containing unsaturated or monosaturated fats. Eat fewer fried foods. Eat lean meat and fish.
  6. Tobacco smoking is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Make sure your home and work space are smoke-free.
