The pale green vegetable has numerous health benefits. The cooked vegetable is diuretic, sedative and anti-bilious. It gives a feeling of relaxation and is useful in treating urinary disorders. A glassful of fresh juice prepared by grating the whole fruit should be mixed with a teaspoon of lime juice to treat the high acidity in urine. The juice of `dudhi` is a valuable medicine for excessive thirst due to severe diarrhoea, diabetes and excessive use of fatty or fried foods.

A glass of this juice should be taken with a pinch of salt to prevent fatigue in summer. A mixture of bottle gourd juice and sesame oil is an effective medicine for insomnia. `Dudhi` also helps in treating constipation due to its fibre content. It is used as a headache remedy and to treat coughs. The leaves are used to treat skin diseases and juice from the stem is used to treat respiratory complaints. The seeds are also used to treat aching teeth, gums and boils.

Dudhiche Thalipeeth By Mayura Kale

Ingredients:
1/4 - bottle gourd
2 cups - wheat flour
1/2 cup - rawa/ sooji
2 tbsp - jeera/ cumin seeds
1/4 tbsp - haldi/ turmeric powder
1 tbsp - chilli powder(according to your taste)
chopped coriander
salt to taste
oil

Method

  1. Take a kadhai and put 2 spoons of wheat flour and roast until it will turn into pink color. Keep it aside.
  2. Now add 1 spoon of oil in a kadhai and roast rawa/sooji until turn into pink color. Keep it in the same bowl of wheat flour.
  3. Peel out bottle gourd and grate it and squeeze out the water from it and add grated gourd into flour mixture.
  4. Don't throw the water.
  5. Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, jeera/cumin seeds, salt, chopped coriander into it.
  6. Make dough out of it using little water of gourd if needed and with little oil.
  7. Keep this dough aside for 30 mins and make lemon size balls and then roll into a puri shape and roast it on tava with little oil.
  8. Serve with tasty curd, butter or tomato sauce.
