Chikungunya is a kind of viral-infect bond infection which is transmitted, as in malaria, by mosquito. The symptoms are similar to that of dengue fever. Usually the symptoms last for 3-5 days, followed by prolonged pain and swelling in joints of extremities. Usually this pain may linger on for months or, even, years. In menopausal and post meno- pausal women Chikungunya causes severe joint damage or the infection may lead to arthritis.

A virus named "Alpha" is responsible for this disorder. This virus is transmitted through Aedes mosquito. In Ayurveda, this condition is attributed to Vata type of joint pain, hence the treatment suggested is Vata management therapies and medicines or diet.
