Papaya, fruit of angels

The soft and deliciously sweet papaya can be found in markets throughout the year. The rich orange fruit has a luscious taste and is a rich source of antioxidants like carotenes, vitamin C and flavonoids.

Papaya contains Vit A which accelarates formation of new cells.

The fruit is useful in treating diarrhoea and constipation. The unripe fruit is recommended in managing ringworm.

Make a refreshingly healthy beverage

The leaves dipped in hot water are applied to painful parts to reduce inflammation. Green papaya increases nutrient absorption and is used for acidity.

The juice of papaya is used as a cosmetic to remove freckles and makes the skin smooth.

Papaya is also recommended in the treatment of cancer.

Papaya can be cooked in some inspiring ways:

Boppai (Papaya) Halwa

Ingredients:
2 cups - ripe boppai gratings
2 cups - ghee
1 cup - sugar
50 g - kaju
50 g - kishmis
2 tsp - elachi powder
a pinch - saffron colour

Method

  1. Cook boppai gratings with sugar and some water.
  2. While boiling, add saffron and ghee.
  3. Cook till it leaves the sides of the pan.
  4. Add cardamom powder and raisins.
  5. Pour on a greased plate.
  6. Cut into small pieces and garnish with cashew.

Cooking time: 30 mins
