Hilton Chennai hosts the fruit soaking ceremony for 2012
Est, the 24 hours deli at Hilton Chennai saw a grand fruit soaking ceremony on 14 October, 2012. The ceremony sparked off the festive season for the year. The festival was led by Chef Mukesh Singh Rawat, Pastry Chef - Hilton Chennai who invited the house guests to join in.

Fruit soaking for the traditional Christmas cake is a ceremony which has been followed since early Victorian times in Europe, bringing cheer to all those involved in it. The Christmas cake is a must in every home and the belief is that if the cake comes out well, it augurs well for the people for the New Year.

At Hilton Chennai, the guests mixed huge piles of dry fruits and nuts like black currants, cashew nuts, apricots, candied ginger, orange peels, almonds, prunes and raisins.

They also added spices like ground cinnamon, cardamom and cloves to give it a distinct aroma and flavor.

Bottles of liquor like red wine, cognac, rum and whiskey were added to the mixture which was then kept away to be used when the Christmas cake would be baked.

Look forward to a festive season of gift hampers and offers in the months to come.
