Method
  1. Clean and joint the chicken.
  2. Slice the onions. Chop tomatoes and green chillies.
  3. Grind ginger and garlic to a paste. Grind poppy seeds to a paste.
  4. Grate coconut and extract coconut milk.
  5. Heat oil in a frying pan.
  6. Add onions and green chillies and fry until golden brown in colour.
  7. Add chicken pieces, ginger, garlic paste, turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, poppy seeds paste and salt to taste.
  8. Brown well adding a little yoghurt at a time.
  9. Add chopped tomatoes, coconut milk and saffron. Mix well.
  10. Pour 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker.
  11. Place the container with chicken in it and pressure cook for 8 mins.
  12. Squeeze lime juice before serving.

1 chicken, cleaned well and cut into pieces
3 onions, finely chopped
2 tomatoes
2 green chillies
A small piece of ginger
4 cloves garlic
2 tsp poppy seeds
1 cup yoghurt
1 coconut
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp. chilli powder
2 tsp. coriander powder, roasted
A pinch saffron
Oil for frying
Salt to taste
