Watermelon mutton

  1. Heat half the quantity of oil and put the mutton pieces and salt to taste. Allow the mutton to dry up so that all the water in the mutton is absorbed into the mutton. Lower the heat and mix in the ginger- garlic paste. Stir gently and mix in salt to taste. Now, mix in the fried onion paste and stir fry for another 2 mins. Mix in the tomato puree and all the spices.
  2. Stir fry for 2-3 mins. more. Add the melon juice and the remaining oil and continue to cook on low fire so that the melon juice is absorbed in the mutton. Cover with a lid while doing so that the mutton pieces become tender.
  3. In case the mutton is still undercooked, place in a pressure cooker with 1 and half cups of water and cook for the mutton to become tender. Check for the salt. Garnish with watermelon pieces and serve with rotis.
2 cups water melon juice
1 kg mutton
2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
4 tbsp oil
2 tbsp coriander powder
2 tsp jeera powder
1 tsp haldi powder
1 tsp or less red chilli powder
1 cup fried onion paste
2 tbsp tomato puree
salt to taste
