Method
  1. Combine milk, sugar and egg and beat well.
  2. Butter a pie dish and put a layer of breadcrumbs at the bottom. Spread with a layer of jam. Repeat until the breadcrumbs and jam are used up.
  3. Pour the milk over and allow to stand for 1/2 an hour. Sprinkle nutmeg.
  4. Bake in a moderate oven for 3/4 hour.
  5. Serve with custard sauce.

Custard sauce:

  1. Boil the milk.Beat eggs and sugar together and pour the boiling milk over the mixture, stirring all the time.
  2. Return to the saucepan and stir until the mixture thickens.Serve
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs
1/2 pint milk
1 egg beaten
1 tbsp sugar
8 tbsps jam
Pinch of nutmeg
Custard sauce to serve

Ingredients for the custard sauce:

2 eggs
1/2 pint milk
1 dessertspoon sugar
A few drops of vanilla essence
