Macha Jhal (Hilsha Fish with Mustard Paste)

Method
  1. Clean and wash the fish.
  2. Cut fish into 1 cm thick slice.
  3. Smear with salt and turmeric powder.
  4. Grind together mustard seeds and green chilies into fine paste.
  5. Blend curd and keep aside.
  6. Now add mustard paste, curd, shredded garlic cloves into the fish and marinade it for half an hour.
  7. Heat oil, add kalonjee then add marinated fish, slit green chillies and 2 cups of water into it.
  8. Cook it on low flame till fish became tender.
  9. Serve hot with plain rice.
Ingredients:
hilsha fish - 500 gm
mustard seed - 4 to 6 tsp
green chilies - 2 to 4 nos
kalonjee (onion seed) - 1 tsp
mustard oil - 2 tbsp
curd - 2 tbsp
turmeric powder - 1 tsp
garlic - 2 to 4 cloves
salt to taste
