Method
  1. In a bowl, add all the masalas for marinade and mix well.
  2. Marinate the chicken in it for 4 hours. Keep refrigerated.
  3. In a heavy bottomed pan, heat oil, add cumin seeds and when it splutters, add asafoetida.
  4. Add chicken with the marinade and saute till only a quantity of gravy remains.
  5. Transfer into a flat oven proof dish and bake, covered, at medium heat for 20-30 mins.
  6. Alternatively, it maybe deep fried.
  7. Garnish with tomatoes, onion slices and mint leaves.
Ingredients:
Chicken, cut into 8 pieces make cuts with a sharp knife all over - 1 kg

For the marinade:

Yoghurt - 1 cup
Onion, medium, ground - 2
Ginger paste - 1 tsp
Turmeric - 1 tsp
Red chilli powder - 1-2 tsp
Garam masala powder - 2 tsp
Lemon juice - 2 tbsp
Green chilli paste - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Asafetida - 1/2 tsp
Oil - 1/2 cup
Salt to taste
