Lemon cake with honey sauce

  1. Beat butter with the powdered sugar.
  2. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well.
  3. Add the lemon peel and lemon juice.
  4. Sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  5. Add buttermilk (thick lassi) alternately with flour.
  6. Bake in a greased and floured ring mould at 180 deg C for about 45 mins.
  7. Turn out on a wire rack

To make the honey sauce:

  1. Boil sugar with honey and water for 1 minute.
  2. Take off the fire.
  3. Add the lemon juice and lemon rind.

Prick the warm cake with a fork and then brush with some of the honey sauce. Serve the rest of the sauce separately.
3/4 cup butter
1&1/2 cups powdered sugar
5 eggs
1 tbsp. lemon peel
1/4 cup lemon juice
3 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1&1/2 cups buttermilk (thick lassi)

For the honey sauce:
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup water
2 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. lemon rind
