Causes of bad breath
Bad breath or halitosis could also be an indicator of a problem in your body. Oral causes are more common than non-oral causes, and include poor oral hygiene, gum disease, tongue coating, food stuck between the teeth, unclean dentures and dry mouth. Tobacco and alcohol are also important causes of bad breath; smoking especially is implicated in gum disease.
Certain foods, such as garlic, onion and coffee also contribute to bad breath because they contain odour-causing compounds that enter the lungs through the bloodstream and are exhaled.
