GOA - Just saying the word makes me think of Goan food! With influences from the Portuguese rule, its neighbouring South-Indian states, the Arabian Sea on the west and the mix of Hindu and Christian dwellers, Goa is diverse and multi-cultural in its homes, languages and scripts, festivals and
food. The Mardi Gras-like carnivals and its pork dishes can be attributed to Portugal while the seafood comes from the Arabian Sea; coconut, kokum (Konkan specialty) and intense spices are influences of South India and Feni, the cashew-fruit drink comes from its tropical climate.
Goan cuisine comprises Hindu vegetarian and the Portuguese-influenced non-vegetarian (seafood & pork) Catholic food.
