Salty snacks

Children between 4 and 6 years of age require 3 grams of salt a day while those between 7 and 10 years and 11+ years require 5 and 6 grams of salt a day, respectively. Most processed foods contain a lot more salt than the prescribed amounts. Excess salt can lead to weight gain and associated problems. You might want to check labels before allowing your child to dip into that packet of potato chips.

Healthy Alternative: Instead of potato chips, serve him a handful of nuts, or some low-on-salt crackers with cheese, or low-fat paneer.
