Halwa is a flour or nut-based Indian sweet that is made as dessert and is an integral part of festival cooking. Halwas can be made with nuts, seeds, lentils and with vegetables like carrots and pumpkin. The process typically involves cooking of the primary ingredient with sugar syrup to make a sticky, sweet dish. Saffron, ghee and cardamom powder are used to enhance the flavour of this sweet.
