Low fat, high fibre and high protein foods are the mantra to weight loss. While choosing high fibre and high protein foods may be easy in an Indian menu, cooking up low fat dishes to accompany your roti or rice to carry to work may be a challenge. So, here`s a collection of easy side dishes you can whip up on workdays.

Cabbage kootu

Ingredients:


1/4 kg - cabbage

1/2 cup - Bengal gram dal/channa dal

1 - onion (small)

1 - tomato (large)

Ginger, a small quantity

2 cloves - garlic

1 - green chilli

1 tbsp - red chilli powder

2 tbsp - coriander powder

1 tsp - turmeric powder

Asafoetida, a pinch

2 tbsp - grated coconut


Method:


1. Cut cabbage, wash Bengal gram dal and put both together in a pressure cooker along with all the ingredients like chopped onion, tomatoes, green chilli, ginger, garlic, turmeric powder, red chilly powder, coriander powder, salt and asafoetida.

2. Stir well and pour required water.

3. Boil for 20 minutes, now add grated coconut and mix well.
