Fat is stubborn
Fat, especially abdominal fat, is hard to lose. In India, about 15-20 percent of the population is found to be susceptible to abdominal or visceral fat. Abnormal or excessive accumulation of fat around the waist indicates obesity and is an independent risk factor for serious ailments such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure), heart disease, infertility, low self-esteem and depression. People who are not obese, but seeking weight loss, find losing belly fat to be the toughest challenge. Here are some simple and smart ways to lose overall body weight, especially abdominal fat.

Eat small meals

One of the basic principles of losing weight and staying free of abdominal fat is eating small meals, in the right portions. Six small meals a day as against three large meals will keep your body energized by optimizing your body`s metabolism. In other words, eating small meal portions will help your body to regulate blood sugar levels optimally.

It is also said that eating minimally helps you to burn fat easily - this is because you are stopping your body from storing the excess fat in the first place, which happens much more due to fluctuations in the sugar levels. Meals at an interval of every 2-3 hours will keep you full throughout the day and will prevent you from cravings at odd hours of the day.
