Ash Gourd Dry Sabji

Method
  1. Soak dal in water for one hour and drain.
  2. Peel, core and slice ash gourd.
  3. Heat oil in a kadai.
  4. Add mustard and cumin seeds.
  5. When they splutter add turmeric powder and asafetida.
  6. Add dal and ¼ cup water.
  7. Cover and keep on very low flame till dal is soft but not mushy.
  8. Add Gourd pieces, salt and green chillies.
  9. Cook till gourd is soft and the sabji is almost dry.

Serves: 4-6

Ingredients:
bengal gram (chana) dal - 1/3 cup
ash gourd - ½ kg
grated coconut - 2 tbsp
oil - 1 tbsp
mustard seeds - 1 tsp
cumin seeds - 1 tsp
turmeric powder - ½ tsp
asafetida - ¼ tsp
green chilies, slit - 2
salt to taste
