Now add the remaining ingredients to the flour and make a dough of it by adding enough water.
Make a ball from the dough and put it in the thenkuzhal press (with the three holed plate in the press).
Squeeze the dough into the boiling oil through the press.
Fry it in the oil till it turns crispy. (don't let it turn into brown color).
Strain the oil and store them in an airtight container.
4 cups rice flour
1 cup urad dal flour (fry the urad dal directly
in a pan till it gets a nice brown color and then
powder it finely)
2 tbsp butter
1/4 tsp asafoetida powder
2 tbsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)
1/2 cup coconut milk (optional)
salt - to taste
oil for frying
