Fada Ji Khichdi

Method
  1. Clean the moong dal and soak for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Clean the, broken wheat carefully and wash 3-4 times.
  3. Soak for at least 30-40 minutes.
  4. In a pressure pan heat ghee.
  5. Add cinnamon stick, cloves, elaichi, and stir fry.
  6. Add cumin seed and asafoetida.
  7. Stir fry add the chopped garlic, chillies, and chopped onions.
  8. Stir fry till pink, add the chopped tomatoes and saut� till soft.
  9. Now add the moong dal and broken wheat. Stir fry for 2-3 minutes.
  10. Add the vegetables (carrots, potatoes, peas). Mix well.
  11. Add salt to taste, turmeric powder, and chillie powder. Mix well.
  12. Add 5 cups of water and pressure cook on medium flame till about 4 whistles.
  13. On opening the cooker mix the Khichdi to make it soft.
  14. Garnish with fresh coriander.
  15. Serve hot with mango pickle, curd and papad.

200 g - yellow moong dal
200 g - peas (shelled)
100 g - broken wheat (dalia/lepsi)
2 to 3 - medium potatoes (peeled, cubed)
2 - medium carrots (peeled, cubed)
2 to 3 - onions (finely chopped)
5 to 6 - garlic flakes (chopped finely)
2 to 3 - medium tomatoes (finely chopped)
3 to 4 tbsp - ghee
1 stick - cinnamon
3 to 4 - cloves
2 - wholes elaichi
5 to 6 - pepper whole
3 - green chillies (chopped)
1 tsp - turmeric powder
1 tsp - chillie powder
1 tsp - cumin powder
1/2 tsp - asafoetida
1 tbsp - fresh coriander leaves
