Green Gram dal Sambar

Method
  1. Wash and soak green gram dal in water and place in cooker adding 3 cups of water with 1 tsp turmeric powder, asafoetida and a tsp oil.
  2. Chop onions, tomatoes and keep other ingredients ready.
  3. Heat oil in a kadai, splutter mustard seeds, black gram dal, red chillies, curry leaves and add onions followed by tomatoes. Fry them well.
  4. Now add boiled dal to it.
  5. Add some salt and mix them well.
  6. Allow it to boil for some 10 minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  7. Idly Sambar is ready to be served. It can be served with idly.

Note: Dal will be leaving bubbles and coming out of pressure cooker very easily. Hence always cook this dal in a medium or low flame.

1 cup - green gram dal
10 - pearl onions
2 - tomato
1 tbsp - red chilli powder
2 tbsp - coriander powder
1 tsp - turmeric powder
asafoetida, a pinch
curry leaves, small quantity
coriander leaves, small quantity
1 tsp - mustard
1 tsp - black gram dal
2 - red chillies
1 tsp - fenugreek
