Wash and soak the dal in water for a few hours, drain out the water and cook in very little water till soft and completely dry.
Remove from fire and grind to a fine paste.
Mix in the flour and knead to a smooth mixture.
Mix together coconut and sugar and cook over a slow fire till the mixture turns brown and sticky, mix in the rest of the filling ingredients and cook till smooth.
Remove from fire and divide the dal and the filling into equal number of portions.
Shape each portion of dal into an oval ball.
Put 2 cups water in sugar and prepare a syrup of one-third consistency. Remove from fire.
Now fry the balls to a golden brown colour and toss into the syrup.
