Dosa kaya pappu (Cucumber dal)

  1. Peel and cut cucumber into cubes. Keep it aside.
  2. Cook dal in pressure cooker with 600ml of water haldi,red chilli powder, tomato and green chillies till 3 whistles.
  3. Mash the dal and keep it aside.
  4. Heat oil. Add hing, mustard seeds, red chilli, jeera, garlic, curry leaves and fry till seeds splutter.
  5. Add onion pieces and cook till they become soft. Add cucumber , cover and let it cook under sim for 3-4mins till it becomes soft.
  6. Add mashed dal, tamarind paste and salt. Mix well and cook for 2 mins.
  7. Check salt and add coriander leaves. Serve with hot plain rice/chapathi /poori.
200 gms medium yellow cucumber(curry variety)
400 gms toover dal
1 medium onion (chopped fine)
4 green chillies (cut vertically)
1 tsp red chilli powder
1/4 tsp haldi
Hing a pinch
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp jeera
1 tsp tamarind paste
Medium sized tomato (chopped fine)
6 garlic cloves
2 tbsp oil
1 red chilli (broken into bits)
8 curry patta leaves
2 tsp chopped coriander leaves
