Method
  1. Heat the oil in a kadai.
  2. Add the mustard seeds and allow it to splutter.
  3. Add the bengal gram dal, asafoetida and turmeric powder.
  4. Break the appalam into small pieces and add to it.
  5. Add the tamarind paste, sambar powder and the water and allow to cook for 3 minutes.
  6. Add the required amount of salt.
  7. Serve hot with rice.
Ingredients:
2 - fried appalam
1 tbsp - tamarind paste
1 tbsp - sambar powder
2 cups - water
1 tbsp - bengal gram dal
a pinch of asafoetida
a pinch of turmeric
salt to taste
1 tbsp - oil
