Oats vegetable kozhukattai

Method
  1. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, then add urad dal, fry till golden brown.
  2. Add curry leaves, onion, green chilies and saute with a pinch of salt for a minute.
  3. Add grated carrot, peas, capsicum, turmeric powder to it, water and enough salt and bring it to a boil.
  4. Simmer the flame and add oats to it and mix well.
  5. If it is too dry then sprinkle a little water.
  6. After a minute or two the oats will be cooked and become sticky in consistency.
  7. Put off the flame, add, grated coconut and coriander to it, mix well and allow it to cool.
  8. Grease hands with a little oil, and make equal sized balls out of the mixture.
  9. Press the balls so that it becomes little flat and oblong in shape.
  10. Steam cook for 4 to 5 minutes.
  11. Yummy and tasty oats pidi kozhukattai is ready to be served hot.

Ingredients:
1 cup - oats
3/4 cup - water
2 tbsp - onion, finely chopped
2 tbsp - grated carrot
2 tbsp - frozen baby peas
1 tbsp - capsicum, finely chopped
4 - green chilies, finely chopped
2 tbsp - grated coconut
Turmeric powder, a generous pinch
Salt as per taste
1 tbsp - coriander leaves

To temper:
1 tsp - mustard seeds
1/2 tsp - urad dal/black gram
Asafoetida, a generous pinch
3 tsp - oil
Curry leaves, a sprig
