Tur Dal Khichari

Method
  1. Boil the Tur Dal and Peanuts (after washing it) till the dal is half cooked

  2. Meanwhile, Grind garlic, ginger, khopra together.

  3. When the dal is done (half cooked) pour some oil in the pan / pot / cooker in which you want to make the khichari. When the oil is heated put the jeera & rai in it. After these splutter, put the garlic-ginger-khopra paste in it and mix it well in the oil.

  4. Put tomato, garam masala and chilli powder and mix well.

  5. Now pour the boiled tur dal-peanuts and rice into this. Pour water, as required (I normally use 2.5 to 3 cups, to cook. Add salt. Place a lid and let the khichari cook - will take 15 mins. If using a cooker - 4 whistles.

  6. Garnish with corriander when ready. Serve hot with Pickle, Papad.

Ingredients:
Rice - 2 cups
Tur Dal - 3/4 cup
Peanuts
Garlic - 4-5 flakes
Ginger - a small piece
Khopra (Dried Coconut) sliced/powder - 4-5 tbsps
Tomato - 1 - cut into cubes
Coriander
Cumin Seeds, Mustard Seeds (Jeera & Rai)
Red Chilli Powder
Garam Masala (optional)
Oil to cook
Salt to taste
