Method
Preparation of the dough:
  1. Mix the above ingredients and knead it till it becomes soft.
  2. Add half of the oil and knead till all the oil gets absorbed.
  3. Close it and leave it for an hour.
  4. After half an hour pour half of the remaining oil and knead until it turns soft and keep it closed for another 4 hours.

  1. Break the jaggery into pieces
  2. Mix the coconut and the elaichi and grind it in the mixer to a fine paste without adding water.
  3. Grind the dal to a fine powder and sieve it.
  4. Mix the powder to the ground paste and heat it in the tawa till the excess water gets absorbed.
  5. After it cools make lemon sized balls of the fillings.
  6. Take a plantain leaf grease it will oil.
  7. Take a lemon sized ball from the dough and pat it to 4 inches diameter.
  8. Take one lemon sized ball of the filling and fil it in the dough and close the dough and pat it again upto 10 to 15 inches diameter on the leaf.
  9. Take care to see that the filling does not come out of the dough.
  10. Preheat the tawa to medium and invert the plantain leaf over the tawa.
  11. Immediately but slowly remove the leaf and let the poli stick to the tawa.
  12. Apply little ghee on both sides and remove before it becomes golden brown.
Ingredients:
For preparing the dough:
1/4 kg - maida flour
1/4 kg - wheat flour
a pinch of turmeric powder
water as required
100ml - sesame oil

For the Filling:
1 - coconut, grated
1 cup (150ml) - roasted gram dal
3 to 4 - elaichi
1/4kg - jaggery
