Batata Bhaji (rassa)

Method
  1. Peel and chop potatoes into small cubes. Keep them in water.
  2. Chop tomatoes finely. Chop green chillies into big pieces.
  3. Heat 3-4 tbsp oil in a kadai.
  4. When hot add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, cumin and onion seeds.
  5. When they crackle and give out an aroma, add a pinch of asafoetida and green chillies.
  6. Saute for a few seconds.
  7. Add turmeric powder and immediately add tomatoes.
  8. Saute till tomatoes soften.
  9. Now add potatoes, red chilli powder and salt.
  10. Saute for 2 mins.
  11. Pour a cup of water into the kadai.
  12. Cook covered for 10 mins or until potatoes are cooked.
  13. Garnish with green coriander leaves.
  14. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with puri or chapati.
Ingredients:
3 medium sized potatoes
3-4 green chillies
3 medium-sized tomatoes
1/2 tspn red chilli powder
1/4 tspn mustard seeds
1/4 tspn methi (fenugreek) seeds
1/4 tspn kalaunji/onion seeds
1/4 t spn cumin seeds
A pinch of asafoetida
1/4 tspn turmeric powder
Salt to taste
green coriander for garnishing
