Method
  1. Shell peas and double beans
  2. Wash, peel and dice vegs into large chunks
  3. In a large vessel, cook all vegs with salt and two cups water
  4. In a small pan, heat two tbsp oil, add daniya, red chillies, and chana dal and lightly roast
  5. Add red chillis and coconut and fry for a minute
  6. Grind to a paste and keep aside
  7. Cook tuvar dal with turmeric pwd in a pressure cooker and keep aside
  8. When vegs are cooked add the ground masala and cook for a few minutes
  9. Next add the boiled and mashed tuvar dal and let it cook till bubbles appear.
  10. Heat two tbsp oil ,season with mustard seeds urad dal and curry leaves and pour on the kootu.
  11. Serve hot with rice
  12. This kootu is traditionally prepared on thiruvadarai and served with kali
Ingredients:
100g - ash gourd
100g - yellow pumpkin
100g - sweet potato
1 - raw banana
100g - broad beans
100g - green peas
100g - double beans
1/2 cup - tur dal
Turmeric powder, a pinch
1/2 cup - coconut, grated
2 tbsp - coriander seeds
1 tbsp - chana dal
6 - dry red chilli
4 tbsp - oil
salt to taste
1 tsp - mustard seeds
1 tsp - urad dal
Curry leaves, a few
