Tomato Methi Chutney

Method
  1. Chop tomatoes and onion.
  2. Heat the oil in a kadai. Add both the dals.
  3. When they begin to brown, add chilies and garlic.
  4. Fry till garlic is dark brown.
  5. Add onion, fry till light brown.
  6. Add tomato, fry till soft.
  7. Cool the mixture and grind with tamarind and salt to a paste.
  8. Heat the oil for seasoning.
  9. Add mustard. When it splutters, add methi leaves and fry well.
  10. Add to the chutney and mix well.
  11. Serve as an accompaniment to a meal or with Idly or dosa.

Yields:2 Cups

Ingredients:
250 g - onion, chopped
250 g - tomato
2 tbsp - oil
2 tbsp - chana (bengal gram) dal
2 tbsp - urad (black gram) dal
12 cloves - garlic
10 to 12 - dry red chili
small size lime - tamarind
salt to taste

For Seasoning:
2 tbsp - oil
1 tsp - mustard
1 cup - methi leaves, chopped
