Method
- Put the tur dal, chopped cucumber, tamarind, turmeric and 2&1/2 cups of water in a pressure cooker and cook up to 3 or 4 whistles.
- Turn off the flame and wait until the pressure goes off.
- Remove the dal from the cooker and add the salt and red chilli powder.
- Mix well and cook on a low flame for few minutes.
- Heat oil in a pan for seasoning and add the mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal and cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Then add the hing, curry leaves and red chilli and stir for a few seconds.
- Remove from the flame and pour over the cooked dal mixture.
- Mix well and serve with steamed rice and dollop of ghee.
