Lemon cucumber dal

Method
  1. Put the tur dal, chopped cucumber, tamarind, turmeric and 2&1/2 cups of water in a pressure cooker and cook up to 3 or 4 whistles.
  2. Turn off the flame and wait until the pressure goes off.
  3. Remove the dal from the cooker and add the salt and red chilli powder.
  4. Mix well and cook on a low flame for few minutes.
  5. Heat oil in a pan for seasoning and add the mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal and cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  6. Then add the hing, curry leaves and red chilli and stir for a few seconds.
  7. Remove from the flame and pour over the cooked dal mixture.
  8. Mix well and serve with steamed rice and dollop of ghee.

Ingredients:
1 - lemon cucumber
1 cup - tur dal
Tamarind, gooseberry-sized ball
3 to 5 - green chillies
1/2 tsp - red chilli powder
1/2 tsp - mustard seeds
1/2 tsp - chana dal
1/2 tsp - urad dal
1/4 tsp - cumin seeds
1 - red chilli
2 sprigs - curry leaves
Salt to taste
A pinch of hing
1 tsp - oil
