Bisi bele bath

Method
  1. Pressure cook rice and dal together with water till they turn soft and mushy.
  2. Roast the ingredients listed in 2 except coconut till golden brown and finally add coconut and fry for another minute and grind it to a fine powder.
  3. Soak tamarind in warm water and extract 2 cups of tamarind water and set aside.
  4. Heat oil in a pan, fry chopped veggies and garlic for 5 minutes.
  5. Add salt, turmeric powder and tamarind extract.
  6. Let the mixture boil for 10 minutes till the veggies are cooked and raw smell of tamarind goes off.
  7. Add the ground masala powder, cooked rice and dal, salt if necessary.
  8. Mix well and turn off the heat.
  9. Do the seasoning with ghee and pour on top of the mixture.
  10. Garnish with coriander leaves.

Ingredients:

To pressure cook:
1/2 cup - rice
1/4 cup - tur dal
2.5 cups - water (or adjust according to how mushy you want the rice to get)

2. To roast in a drop of oil and grind:
1 tbsp - coriander seeds
1 tbsp - channa dal
4 - red chillies
2 - cloves
1 inch stick - cinnamon
2 tbsp - coconut grated

Seasonings:
1 tsp - mustard seeds
1 tsp - jeera
Asafoetida, a pinch
Curry leaves, a few
10 - cashew nuts
1 tsp - raisins (optional)

Other ingredients:
2 cups of Veggies(like onions, potatoes, carrots, peas, corn)
2 pods - garlic finely chopped
Salt
Turmeric powder, a pinch
1 tbsp - oil
2 tbsp - ghee
Tamarind, small lime size
Coriander leaves, to garnish
