Wash and cook dal with 4 cups of water till soft but not mushy.
Strain the cooking liquid. (This can be used in rasam)
Add sugar to dal. When the mixture is slightly cooled, grind it till smooth.
Cook this mixture in a thick bottomed pan, stirring all the time till it becomes a lump.
Add cardamom powder. Cool and shape into lime size balls.
Mix Maida with besan, salt, turmeric powder and ghee. Add water and make a thick batter.
Dip the dal balls in this batter and fry in moderately hot oil till golden brown. Consume within 36 hours.
