Cauliflower Palya

Method
  1. Grind coconut coarsely with tomato, without adding any water. Mix in turmeric and sambar powders.
  2. Heat the oil in a kadai. Add mustard and cumin seeds.
  3. When they splutter, add the dal and chillies.
  4. When the dal turns light brown, add cauliflower and salt.
  5. Keep covered on low heat till the cauliflower is cooked. (little water may be sprinkled if needed)
  6. Add the ground paste and continue to simmer on low heat till the raw smell of masala is lost.
  7. Increase the heat and cook stirring till the excess moisture is absorbed and the playa is almost dry.
  8. Serve hot as part of traditional meal or with chapathi.
Ingredients:
3 cup - cauliflower, cut into pieces
1 cup - grated coconut
1 cup - tomato, chopped
1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
2 tsp - sambar powder
3 tbsp - oil
1 tsp - mustard seeds
1 tsp - cumin seeds
2 tsp - black gram (urad) dal
2 - dry red chillies, broken into pieces
salt to taste
