Method
  1. Cut yam, soak in salted water to which half turmeric has been added.
  2. Soak for half an hour, drain, add to 1 1/2 cups fresh water.
  3. Add coconut, add remaining turmeric, boil till cubes are soft.
  4. Add chilli powder, salt, pepper and curry leaves.
  5. Heat oil in small pan, add seeds, dal, allow to splutter.
  6. Add to vegetable, stir, pour into serving dish.
  7. Garnish with grated coconut.
  8. Serve hot with rice or chapathi.

Ingredients:
200 gms - tender yam, peeled, cubed
1/2 cup - coconut, grated
1 tsp - chilli powder
1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
1/2 tsp - cumin seeds
1/4 tsp - urad dal
1/4 tsp - mustard seeds
1 tbsp - oil
1 tbsp - grated coconut for garnish
pepper powder to taste
salt to taste
