Method
- Cut yam, soak in salted water to which half turmeric has been added.
- Soak for half an hour, drain, add to 1 1/2 cups fresh water.
- Add coconut, add remaining turmeric, boil till cubes are soft.
- Add chilli powder, salt, pepper and curry leaves.
- Heat oil in small pan, add seeds, dal, allow to splutter.
- Add to vegetable, stir, pour into serving dish.
- Garnish with grated coconut.
- Serve hot with rice or chapathi.

200 gms - tender yam, peeled, cubed
1/2 cup - coconut, grated
1 tsp - chilli powder
1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
1/2 tsp - cumin seeds
1/4 tsp - urad dal
1/4 tsp - mustard seeds
1 tbsp - oil
1 tbsp - grated coconut for garnish
pepper powder to taste
salt to taste
