Raw Banana Plaintain Podimas

Method
  1. Peel off the skin and cut raw banana plaintain in water.
  2. Add a tea spoon of curd to it.
  3. Boil it for some 5 minutes in microwave oven or in gas stove.
  4. Keep other required ingredients ready.
  5. Heat oil in a pan/kadai, splutter mustard, black gram dal, curry leaves, asafoetida, ginger, green chillies, grated coconut, and finally plaintain.
  6. Add little salt to it. Mix them well.
  7. Plaintain podimas is delicious and ready to be served.
  8. It can be served along with rice.

Note:
Plaintain after chopping should be soaked in water, else it will turn out black in colour.

Optional:

  • Banans can be smashed and cooked instead of cutting into small pieces.
  • Turmeric powder and lime juice can be added for taste.

This recipe is called Vazhakkai Podimas in Tamil.

Ingredients:
2 - raw banana plaintain
1 tsp - mustard
1 tbsp - black gram dal
1 tbsp - bengal gram
3 - green chillies
small quantity - ginger
small quantity - curry leaves
a pinch - asafoetida
small quantity - grated/shredded coconut
salt to taste
oil for frying
