Fruity Tangy Salad

Method
  1. Chill all fruit well, before chopping.
  2. Chop guava, apple and bananas, sprinkle lemon juice, toss.
  3. Add pomegranate, salt, sugar, cumin and masala.
  4. Toss till well mixed.
  5. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Serve immediately.

Editor`s notes: A healthy diet should include fruits and vegetables. The health conscious among us, especially, stock up fruits rich in vitamins A and C, betacarotene and fiber that can reduce the risk of chronic diseases. But while we usually enjoy the soft, tastier middle portions, it’s the peels that also contain some of the most health-protecting antioxidants.

A study from Cornell University found that peels of apples can have up to 87 percent more phytochemicals (cancer fighting agents) than the inner flesh.

Guava has a number of medicinal properties. The fruit is decocted as a cure for diarrhoea.

An infusion made from the fruit is used to treat sore throat, vomiting, stomach upsets, vertigo and to regulate menstrual periods. The fruit is chewed for bleeding gums and bad breath; it prevents hangovers (if eaten before drinking).

Ingredients:
1 pomegranate cleaned
1 ripe guava
2 bananas ripe and firm
1 apple ripe but firm
1 tbsp. coriander leaves finely chopped
1/2 lemon juice extracted
1/2 tsp. cumin seeds crushed
1/4 tsp. garam masala or chat masala
1 tsp. sugar powdered salt to taste
