Method
- Combine the greens with all the powders and garlic.
- Add about 6 cups of water and heat.
- When it begins to boil, lower the heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- Stir in the dal, simmer for 2 more minutes.
- Add salt, jaggery and lime juice, stir well and remove from heat.
- Heat the oil, add mustard.
- When it splutters, add curry leaves and add it to the saaru.
- Serve hot with steamed rice and accompaniments.

1 cup - amarantha greens or palak, finely chopped
1/3 cup - cooked toovar dal, mashed
½ tsp - chilli powder
½ tsp - black pepper powder
½ tsp - turmeric powder
½ tsp - cumin powder
2 tsp - garlic, crushed
2 tsp - jaggery powder
1 tsp - mustard
salt and lime juice to taste
few curry leaves
2 tsp - oil
