Garlic Poritha Kuzhambu

Method

  1. Peel the garlic cloves and chop into small pieces.

  2. Chop the onion into fine pieces.
  3. Pressure cook dal and keep aside.
  4. In a frying pan, add 5 tablespoons of oil and heat. Then add the chopped onions and garlic and fry till onion turns light brown.

  5. Pour water into it and add sambar powder, turmeric powder and salt and let the onion and garlic cook for a while. After the garlic gets cooked well,add dal, let it cook for sometime and then remove from pan.

  6. Heat a tablespoon of oil and add mustard for garnishing and then the curry leaves. Transfer this into the cooked garlic kuzhambu after the mustard splutters.

  7. Serve with rice.

Note: For a better taste, this may be garnished with the home-made garnishing vadam, if you have. Also the same procedure can be done with Daikon (Chou chou) instead of garlic. Hope you liked it.

Ingredients:
Garlic : 20 to 25 Cloves
Onion : 1 (medium)
Toor Dal: 1/2 cup
Sambar powder : 1 to 1.5 tbsp
Turmeric powder : A pinch
Oil : 6 tbsp
Mustard : 1/2 tbsp
Water : 1 cup.
Curry leaves : Few
Salt to taste.
